What is the Will of God?

Growing up in Christianity, I came to understand the Will of God to essentially consists of loving God with your whole heart, soul, mind and strength & loving your neighbor as yourself. And we do the latter by applying the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Loving Your Neighbor As Yourself When I was young, I had a hard time with the phrase “as yourself” in the loving your neighbor part, because I struggled with negative feelings of self-worth. I remember when I was in middle school, at the age of 12 or 13, I had this notion that other people were more…

The LORD Said To My Lord

Many refer to the following passage to support the notion that Jesus is not the physical son of David, but rather, he is God, the Son. (Never mind the fact that the Bible never says that Jesus is “God, the Son”.) “41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he?“They say unto him, The son of David.“43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45 If David then call him Lord,…

    The Genealogies of Jesus

Two lineages demonstrate harmoniously how Jesus could be considered the Messiah, also known as the Son of God -- through physical seed, which came through the line of Solomon and through the word/saying (figurative/spiritual seed) of God which came through the line of Nathan. Both lineages link Jesus to David, of Abraham, of God through Joseph, Jesus' father.

Why Did the Officers Go Backward & Fall to the Ground?

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.…

Who is the God of the Bible?

God is typically painted in a religious light, meaning He is usually defined by those who worship & serve Him. For example, the “God” of Israel, or more specifically, the God “of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob”, is defined for us primarily by the Old Testament or the Tanakh, written by men who worshipped & sought to serve Him. But then, the God “of the Jews” is further defined by the traditions of the elders and rabbinical teachings, in the religion called “Judaism”. And in the view “of the believers of Jesus Christ”, God is defined further still through the writings of the New Testament, coupled with the traditions & teachings…

Matthew 1, Isaiah 7 and Emmanuel

Immediately preceding the quote of Isaiah 7:14 in the first chapter of Matthew, the author relays the words of the messenger to Joseph saying, And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 Most understand the author’s mention of “she shall bring forth a son” and the fact that the child shall be called a name as being the spark that ignites the reference to the words in Isaiah 7:14. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is,…

    Free From the Calendar Debate

I’m so glad to be free from the “calendar” debate! Chasing after the sun, moon and stars to determine when to “appear before the LORD” is so last-year for me. No offense is meant to those searching these things out now. Keep searching — don’t settle on doing what everyone else is doing just because everyone else is doing it. Be able to give a sound reason for why you do what you do. I’ve shared some of my notes on my past calendar study for anyone who might be interested in comparing notes with me. From time to time, I go back and make revisions based on newer understanding,…

A Man In Whom The Spirit of God Is

Several weeks ago when studying out the Holy Spirit in the Bible, I turned to the Old Testament to see what I could find. It seems to me that the Spirit of God is another way of saying Holy Spirit. Given that, this is what I found… The Spirit of God Moved In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (Gen 1:1-3 KJV) This is the first mention of the…

Made in His Image and Likeness

Genesis 5:3 establishes the notion that within humanity, a son bears a likeness to his father. And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: (Gen 5:3 KJV) We all understand this with physical features, where a son may physically look like his father bearing the same skin tone, hair and eye color, build and facial features. But because he was taught by his father, he also may carry similar traits found in his: temperament work ethic love/compassion towards others integrity/moral character And similar interests like: a love of the outdoors being an avid reader sharing…
